Former King Juan Carlos once helped restore legitimacy to the Spanish monarchy—as a guarantor of democracy, unity, and peace. Today, King Felipe must prove whether he can live up to the responsibilities of his office and reconcile the country amid the most severe crisis in its 40-year history of democracy.
